Roma are looking for ways to improve their defence.
The team’s backline is still vulnerable and without many guarantees with the exception of the starting formation.
Back-up options such as Chris Smalling and Marash Kumbulla have not given Daniele De Rossi the response he hoped for so far in preseason training.
Thus, Corriere della Sera speculates that Roma may attempt to part ways with both Smalling and Kumbulla soon.
With Kumbulla out, Roma would veer towards Rennes defender Arthur Theate, a player Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolfi is particularly keen on.
Additionally, in case of Chris Smalling’s exit, the newspaper writes that Roma may reconsider going after Mats Hummels.
The German defender is still a free agent and has not yet accepted any of the proposals that have come his way. He could take the Englishman’s spot on Roma’s roster.
