Roma’s priority remains the signing of an additional right-back with Frenchman Lorenz Assignon in pole position.
The 24-year-old is expected to leave Rennes following his recent return from loan at Burnley.
Assignon’s spell in the Premier League proved successful but in the end the fullback decided against the drop to the Championship with Burnley.
Now, Roma are onto him and have made him their top target to replace Rick Karsdorp.
According to Sky Sport, talks between Roma and Rennes are on-going.
Daniele De Rossi has asked the club to speed up negotiations as he would like to have Assignon for the first match of the season with Cagliari on August 18.
The Giallorossi have already presented the first offer with the formula of the loan with buy option but the proposal was rejected. In fact, Rennes would like a permanent transfer starting from a request of 12 million.
