Paulo Dybala’s shocking decision to stay at Roma took the whole of the Giallorossi by surprise.

The decision came in the afternoon, after the demonstrations of affection from the fans and teammates, following his exit from Trigoria which was initially believed to be the last time the player left Roma’s training center.

Gianluca Di Marzio’s latest report for Sky Sport sheds more light on what took place behind the scenes that influenced Dybala’s sudden turnaround.

Dybala’s family, notably his wife and mother, were never entirely been convinced of Al Qadsiah as the player’s next destination. In fact, Dybala himself reportedly had some doubts which is why he rejected their initial offer on August 7th.

Then the new offer and the appearance on bench against Cagliari convinced him to leave. Dybala accepted and the club booked a private flight to fly him to Saudi Arabia—hoping he’d play in tomorrow’s game.

This morning, Dybala didn’t train with his teammates and was limited to light gym work—all signs pointing to it being his last time at Trigoria. However, he reflected on the deal throughout the afternoon while Al Qadsiah negotiated a transfer fee with Roma, who refused to accept their €3 million offer.

At around 7pm the decision was made, and the player announced the decision to stay via a post on Instagram.
