In addition to Mario Hermoso, with whom the Giallorossi opened talks in recent hours, Roma are also looking to add veteran defender Mats Hummels to their squad.
As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport, Roma are working on Hermoso and Hummels simultaneously.
Hummels would be replacing Chris Smalling who is likely to end up in Saudi Pro League where the transfer window is open until October.
Talks are ongoing, with Roma determined to close the deal for at least one more defender within the next hours.
