Former Roma defender Rick Karsdorp looked back on the incident that marked his stay in the Italian capital the most.
In particular, Karsdorp focused on the aftermath of the match with Sassuolo in 2022, when Mourinho called him a traitor in front of the media.
In an interview with Nu.nl, Karsdorp said, “We were going through a really bad run of results. I think Mourinho wanted to send a signal using me after the match against Sassuolo.”
“Did he apologize? No, he is not that kind of man. I noticed that he tried to re-establish a relationship with me afterwards but I did not agree with him.”
“In the locker room he called me a traitor about eight times and he can do that there. But he should never have done it publicly, he made a mistake in that.”
“I was surprised by his gesture, he went the line. After that discussion, I should have left Roma,” he added.
