Mats Hummels discussed his decision to retire in his own podcast Alone is Hard.
“There were many days last summer when I thought that retirement was really the right choice. I didn’t feel motivated to train anywhere anymore,” revealed the 36-year-old.
“There were already some great opportunities in July, and I felt like I didn’t want to train anymore for any reason. I didn’t want to go back to this routine.”
Then, on his early moments at Roma with De Rossi and Juric, “Unfortunately I only had De Rossi for two weeks. With Ivan Juric, a modest situation began, both in terms of matches and training.”
“I respect his interpretation of football. But I don’t know how far you can be from what I like and what makes me strong,” he added.
