Roma is still struggling with a glaring attacking problem, and the name that could change things is Joshua Zirkzee.
The Dutchman is Gian Piero Gasperini’s specific request, having reportedly received assurances from Frederic Massara and Claudio Ranieri regarding the arrival of a new center forward in January.
Of all the players being followed, the former Bologna player currently appears to have the best chance of wearing the Giallorossi jersey.
As reported by Il Messaggero, there have been new contacts with Manchester United in recent days.
Zirkzee has found some playing time thanks to Benjamin Sesko’s injury, but when the Slovenian returns, he could find himself on the sidelines again.
This is a serious risk, especially considering the World Cup, which is why the 2001-born player has reportedly already expressed his willingness to seriously consider a move to Roma.
The easiest way to secure Zirkzee is a loan with an obligation to buy, but the financial sticking point remains: United are asking for €35 million to release him in January.
It’s a complicated deal, especially since manager Ruben Amorim will be losing several attacking players to the Africa Cup of Nations and isn’t willing to weaken the squad without guarantees.
