Gian Piero Gasperini’s words of praise for Niccolò Pisilli are pleasing, but they may not be enough to secure him a permanent place at Roma.

The 2004-born midfielder has only played 47 minutes in the league so far, and with the January transfer window now upon us, it’s only natural that initial discussions about his future are underway.

The team most interested is Genoa, which—as reported by Corriere dello Sport—is pushing both the Giallorossi and the player’s entourage.

The praise comes from Daniele De Rossi, who, as Roma coach, specifically selected Pisilli to give him his first start in September 2024 at the Allianz Stadium against Juventus.

The feeling is that the situation could be resolved very soon, likely as early as the next two weeks.

A date to mark could be December 29th, when Genoa will be at the Olimpico to face Roma in their final match of 2025.

It will also mark De Rossi’s return to the capital as an opponent, and it’s possible this could be the perfect opportunity to discuss Pisilli in more detail.

Roma, however, is clear: the player is not considered surplus to requirements and has no intention of selling him permanently. The idea is for a loan deal, which will allow him to develop and give him playing time, without losing control of his future.

Moreover, the midfielder renewed his contract only a few months ago, and the club intends to continue monitoring his development closely.
