Sevilla’s future is at the center of debate in Spain, with the increasingly concrete possibility of an American group entering the club.

This possibility doesn’t scare Monchi, former sporting director of Nervion and current president of CD San Fernando, who cited his positive experience in Rome under James Pallotta’s American management.

After leaving Sevilla in 2017, Monchi joined Roma, where he worked until 2019, before a brief stint at Aston Villa, which ended last September. In an interview with Cadena SER, the Spanish executive clarified his position on the influx of international funds into football: “Foreign capital must arrive at Sevilla FC sooner or later.”

Monchi recalled his previous collaborations with foreign entrepreneurs. In particular, he cited his time in the capital and his experience with Bostonian James Pallotta: “The two experiences I had, both in Rome and at Aston Villa, were good. Both clubs are much better now than when they arrived.”

The former sporting director described the former owners as “serious people, with a keen eye, who have managed to lead major European clubs.” He then continued, allaying fears of a possible distortion of their identity: “I’m speaking from my experience, and there they didn’t change Roma’s crest, they didn’t sell Aston Villa’s stadium, and the fans continue to enjoy their clubs.”
