Against Torino, Gasperini recovered Pellegrini, and Ferguson will also return this week.

However, during the match against Torino, the coach was without two defenders.

Celik was injured during the warm-up and did not appear. During the first half, Hermoso was forced to be substituted for Ghilardi.

The Turkish defender was sidelined as a precaution.

It was initially feared that Hermoso had a tendon injury, the same one that has sidelined Dovbyk for the next three months.

However, the tests the Spaniard underwent this morning revealed no problems with the tendon. It is a grade-II muscle tear in the iliopsoas. Hermoso will be out for around twenty/thirty days.

The Spaniard will therefore miss the Giallorossi’s upcoming matches. He’ll miss the final two Europa League games against Stuttgart and Panathinaikos, as well as the match against AC Milan on Sunday.

He’s unlikely to return against Udinese and Cagliari; his focus will be on the match against Napoli on February 15th at the Maradona stadium.

This loss was unwelcome for Gasperini, who had just recovered Ndicka from the Africa Cup of Nations. We’ll see if Roma will now look for a defender, or if Gasperini will give Ghilardi and Ziolkowski even more playing time.
