Twente’s season has highlighted several young talents, but Ruud Nijstad, the 18-year-old defender who is attracting the attention of major European clubs, stands out.
Teams such as Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and Inter Milan had already set their sights on him, and last week Roma also joined the list of suitors.
According to the portal twenteinsite.nl, the young defender’s market value has risen to around eight million euros, thanks to continued growth in recent matches.
“Nijstad will probably be sold this summer,” Tijmen van Wissing confirmed to RTV Oost’s De Oosttribune, adding that every good performance further increases his value.
Born in 2008, Nijstad has had a real breakthrough. Starting the season as the fifth choice in defense, the youngster has managed to secure a starting spot, surpassing Robin Pröpper. He has played fifteen competitive matches so far for Twente, demonstrating confidence and consistency, traits that have contributed to his market value.
With his contract expiring in 2027, the club will have to decide whether to extend or sell the defender in the next summer transfer window. It’s a difficult decision: selling him now would mean a significant fee, but keeping him would allow them to consolidate the squad for next season.
In any case, Nijstad has now established himself as one of Twente’s key players, and his season lives up to the expectations of European clubs, making him one of the most promising prospects in Dutch youth football.
