Gian Piero Gasperini has done it. After many ups and few downs, Roma finished the season in third place, returning to the Champions League seven years later, and the credit goes almost entirely to the Grugliasco-born coach.
Now it’s transfer window, and the Giallorossi coach wants to be followed: his first target is Gianluca Scamacca.
Wesley and Donyell Malen: they were the heroes of the Giallorossi’s run, and they were names recommended by the man sitting on the bench. Roma will have to finalize the choice of sporting director, but the path has been mapped out.
Full powers to Gasperini, and so it will be after third place.
According to Nicolò Schira, Gasperini himself is pushing to have Scamacca on his squad next season. Roma will work on it; the striker’s contract expires in 2027, and negotiations could get underway in the coming weeks.
The Roman striker is reportedly returning to Trigoria. He played for three years in the youth team and is a fan of the Roman club.
His departure had been much discussed, but after several close calls to a return to the capital, his former coach’s wishes could now be met.
Under Gasperini, the 1999-born player has scored 19 goals and provided 8 assists in 45 appearances. Barring a few physical issues, he has always been important to Atalanta, and now his future could be with the Giallorossi.
