Roma continues to work on the transfer market and, in addition to the reinforcements already identified for other positions,

Gian Piero Gasperini has reportedly also requested a new signing in defense.

The Giallorossi coach wants to increase the physicality and reliability of the defense, especially ahead of a season that will see the team challenged on multiple fronts. Among the players being closely monitored is Leo Østigard, Genoa’s Norwegian center back.

As reported by Il Messaggero, Roma’s attention is firmly set on the 1999-born defender, currently playing in the World Cup with Norway. Østigard has already made his mark on the competition, scoring in his opening match against Iraq.

His goal also confirmed his threat from set pieces, a trait he demonstrated last season in Serie A. For Genoa, under Daniele De Rossi, Østigard scored five league goals, impressive numbers for a central defender.

His physical build, aerial ability, and aggressiveness in duels make him a perfect fit for Gasperini, who has always been interested in central defenders capable of defending forward and also making an impact on set pieces.

His contract with Genoa expires in 2030, making the deal difficult financially.

Roma, however, is considering the player as a potential reinforcement regardless of Ndicka’s situation.

A possible arrival of Østigard, therefore, would not necessarily be linked to the departure of the Ivorian defender, but would be part of a broader plan to strengthen the rearguard.
