Tammy Abraham’s wonder goal from outside the box helped Roma overcome Lecce’s initial 1-0 lead in last night’s Coppa Italia match at the Stadio Olimpico.
The English attacker was interviewed by Sky Sport after the final whistle and asked to share his thoughts on Roma’s underwhelming first half to the game, playing alongside Zaniolo as well as his decision to join Roma in hindsight.
“In the first half there was a clear lack of mentality, the coach warned us. We weren’t ready. In the second half thanks to Zaniolo, Mkhitaryan and Vina we got back in it. On some days you have these kinds of matches,” said Abraham.
On reaching a goal tally of 15 with the Giallorossi:
“I want to score more. I play in a very good team, I want to help the best way I can with the most goals and assists. That’s all.”
On his preferred partner up-front:
“Playing with Zaniolo is always nice, he’s really strong. I like playing with him, he understands me, he opens up plenty of space for me. I can play in different formations. Ultimately, I play where the coach tells me to play.”
On joining Roma and Mourinho’s role in his decision:
“He played a huge role. Josè represents a great opportunity for me. He was decisive in me coming here. He said to me: “Do you want to enjoy the rain or the sun?”
“For me it is really a pleasure, a great honor. He is a winner, so am I. I hope to win some titles, starting with this tournament.”
