Roma’s Ezequiel Ponce, who has spent this season on loan at AEK Athens, has enjoyed a very successful campaign in Greece. With 14 league goals to his name, the Argentine youngster has drawn interest throughout Europe and could permanently leave the Giallorossi. The Greek side, though, want to keep Ponce as they have an option to buy him for €7 million, but due to economic issues at the club, they don’t have the funds to do so. Corriere dello Sport reports that AEK could insert first-choice goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas into the operation as a way to “offset” the need for cash. Barkas, a 1994 class player, had made 24 appearances this season and has kept 17 clean sheets. Roma are expected to send a scout to further observe the shot-stopper in the coming days.
