After 5 year absence, Roma’s Rick Karsdorp called up by Dutch national team

After yet another superb season, Rick Karsdorp has finally been recalled to the Dutch national team.

The 27 year-old’s career renaissance caught the attention of Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal, who included the defender in his provisional squad for the team’s upcoming Nations League matches against Belgium, Wales, and Poland.

His last appearance for Oranje came over five years ago in March 2017 in a friendly clash versus Bulgaria.

The ex-Feyenoord man was plagued by injuries throughout his first three years at Roma. He came close to joining Genoa in the summer of 2020 but ultimately decided to remain in the Italian capital, hoping to relaunch his career.

After appearing in 44 matches in all competitions last season, Karsdorp’s rebirth continued into this term under new boss Jose Mourinho.

The defender has tallied 7 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions in 2022/23.
