After horrific loan spell with Roma, Renato Sanches joining Benfica

RomaPress Staff

Following his disastrous loan spell with Roma last season, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Renato Sanches is set to rejoin boyhood club Benfica on loan.

After joining PSG in 2022, Sanches had an underwhelming first campaign in the French capital, overshadowed by injuries. With his place in the team uncertain, the midfielder opted to join the Giallorossi last summer on a one-year dry loan.

However, his season was once again plagued by physical setbacks—which limited him to only 12 appearances out of 54 total fixtures across all competitions.

Hoping to rediscover his form, the 26 year-old is on the verge of rejoining Benfica for the upcoming season. His return has been facilitated by the upcoming transfer of Joao Neves to PSG—which is expected to be finalised in the coming days.

To reduce the high transfer fee initially demanded by Benfica, Le Parisien reports PSG offered to loan Sanches under very favorable conditions, including covering his salary.
