After unsuccessful attempt in May, Roma ready to try again for Montiel

John Solano

RomaPress – The rumors surrounding Roma and their interest in River Plate right back Gonzalo Montiel have picked-up in recent hours as the 23 year-old appears ready to move to Europe.

The Giallorossi are indeed looking to bring the defender to the Italian capital in January when the transfer window reopens in the coming days — but it won’t be the first time that Roma try to acquire him.

A former member of Roma’s sporting staff who worked alongside ex-Sporting Director Gianluca Petrachi revealed to RomaPress that the club were in negotiations with River Plate for Montiel in May.

Paulo Fonseca and Petrachi were keen to purchase the Argentina international as they viewed him as the long-term answer at right back. However, the Giallorossi were unsuccessful in the negotiations as both Montiel and River Plate opted for him to remain despite his contract expiring in June of 2021.
