Roma defender Chris Smalling continued his positive run of form, scoring the opening goal in the capital club’s 2-1 victory against Lecce.

The Englishman helped Jose Mourinho’s side secure their sixth win of the season after finding the back of the net early in the first half. He connected with Nicola Zalewski’s superb delivery, securing his third league goal of the season.

The victory helped the Giallorossi build on last weekend’s result over result and keeps them in the tight race at the top of Serie A.

“I’m happy we won. We’re aware we can play much better but the three points were too important tonight,” Smalling told DAZN at full-time.

“Once again we created a lot of scoring chances. I’m not worried, though, the goals are going to come.”

Adding, “We all need to improve and continue getting better. Now we’ll focus on recovering and continue working ahead of Thursday (against Real Betis).”
