Silvano Martina, the Italian agent of Edin Dzeko, spoke today to Teleradiostereo about the contract renewal of the Bosnian. The former Wolfsburg man, who was heavily linked with a summer move to Inter, inked a new deal with the Giallorossi yesterday that will expire in June 2022. These are his words:
How did the renewal come about and how is Edin doing?
He has Roma in his heart, both he and his family. A player with Edin’s history cannot wait for someone else’s decisions like Icardi’s situation. When we chatted I told him: “You’re loved here”. He did receive some stick from some (supporters), it is true, but he is highly regarded by the club. In the last four days, we started the renewal talks and yesterday night at 21.00 we finalised everything.
How important was the new project?
Certainly his teammates, the manager, the club, and the supporters who asked for his renewal had a great influence. Feeling important in a big club like Roma, it was not difficult to sit down and find a contract renewal agreement.
Did Dzeko feel more courted by Roma than by Inter?
When I sent the message to Petrachi about Dzeko being open (to a contract renewal), he was the happiest in the world. Roma wanted this, but they had also understood that after many years, Edin was feeling the need for a new experience and above all one in the Champions League. After nothing happened for a month and a half, we thought about a contract renewal and signed everything last night – Edin did so with happiness and enthusiasm.
