Despite having several options in the position, Roma will certainly look to upgrade the right back role this summer. The Giallorossi currently have five right backs in the team and will undoubtedly look to sell several of them in order to bring in one who fits the qualities that boss Paulo Fonseca is seeking.
One of the options Roma is considering is River Plate’s Gonzalo Montiel. The capital based club has been linked with a move for the 23 year-old, whose contract with the Argentine side is expiring in 2021.
Montiel is expected to leave this summer, but Roma will face stiff competition for his services. His agent, Marcelo Carracedo, spoke today to Corriere dello Sport and revealed that many clubs are interested in signing the defender.
“He is ready to make the leap to Europe, many clubs want him, including Valencia and Roma. At this moment, the negotiations are on stand-by due to the Coronavirus emergency,” he said.
”Teams will be very cautious on the costs they’ll incur this summer”.
Roma are widely expected to sell right backs Bruno Peres, Alessandro Florenzi and Rick Karsdorp while Davide Zappacosta’s loan from Chelsea is also unlikely to be renewed for another season.
