Despite having endured a difficult first season in the Italian capital and having came just steps away from leaving the club in January, Roma left back Leonardo Spinazzola has been the standout for the club so far this season.

Spinazzola’s performances in recent months have caught the attention of everyone throughout the Serie A — an unexpected development considering he nearly joined Inter in January before the deal was called-off at the last minute by the Nerazzurri’s Beppe Marotta.

Davide Lippi, Spinazzola’s agent, admitted today that the collapsed transfer to Antonio Conte’s side benefitted his client, who has become indispensable for Roma.

“In hindsight, we’re glad with how everything ultimately worked out. In life, everything happens as it should so clearly it was destiny,” said Lippi to Tuttomercatoweb Radio.

“Given everything that was said about Leo last year and how’s he performing now, I’m sure someone is kicking themselves. He even has important clubs abroad looking at him but he’s very happy at Roma and has a long-term contract there.”

“Before he joined Roma, I was surprised that Juve wanted to sell him. For me, he’s an international-level player.”

He concluded, “We were patient with him…it took awhile but now he has become decisive. He’s finally finding the continuity that he was lacking.”
