Pablo Bentancur, the agent of midfielder Lucas Torreira, appeared today on Uruguayan radio station Sport 890 and revealed that he came to an agreement with Roma for the ex-Sampdoria man, who ultimately ended up joining Atletico Madrid earlier this week before the close of the summer transfer window.
The 24 year-old, however, decided to join the Spanish side on loan as opposed to returning to Italy, where he also drew interest from Fiorentina and Lazio.
“It was complicated situation (the move to Atletico Madrid). It didn’t just depend on us, but it also required the departure of Partey,” said Bentancur.
“We also had agreements with Roma, Fiorentina, and Lazio – clubs that will play in Europe – however, Lucas decided that he absolutely wanted to join Atletico and shut out the possibility of going elsewhere.”
“Thankfully, we were able to successfully conclude the deal. He’s going there on loan without an option to buy, so everything will depend on how he plays,” he concluded.
