Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri warned his players are running on empty after they were eliminated by AZ Alkmaar in the Conference League.

The Biancocelesti were ousted 4-2 on aggregate by the Dutch side and now prepare to face Roma on Sunday evening in the latest installment of the Derby della Capitale.

“Are we ready for the Derby? Following the World Cup break we’ve been playing every 3 to 5 days,” began Sarri during his post match interview on Sky Sport.

“Right now we’ve got players whose energy levels are flickering simply due to the number of minutes played over the past 70 or so days.”

He added, “We deserved to be eliminated from the Conference League. We lost hope once they drew level at 1-1, our energy was gone.”

“Right now we don’t have the structure to handle more than one competition at a time: physically, mentally, and numerically. Every time we make a few changes to the team we’re made to pay.”

Finally, “We’re just not ready, there’s a lot of work to do. However, we have the margins to improve from all points of view.”
