RomaPress – The future of Roma’s Gonzalo Villar isn’t 100% certain and a departure before tomorrow’s transfer deadline remains a distinct possibility.
Manager José Mourinho is pushing the club to acquire a new defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes tomorrow at 23.00 CET. However, the capital club will have to offload multiple players before they can acquire a new reinforcement.
Executive Tiago Pinto is pushing to finalise contract terminations for Federico Fazio, Javier Pastore, and Steven Nzonzi. However, should the veteran trio continue to reject the club’s offers on a buonuscita (payoff), Pinto could be forced to sell one of the team’s younger players, with all signs pointing to the Spaniard.
The midfielder struggled to win over Mourinho in preseason and is not in the Portuguese’s plans for this season. He was not even on the bench for yesterday’s victory over Salernitana, though, the club claimed that this was for “technical reasons” and wasn’t related to the transfer market.
This stance was reiterated to RomaPress today by a member of Villar’s entourage, who denied that a transfer is likely before tomorrow.
But despite denials from his representatives and even from Villar himself on social media, the agent of the midfielder is sounding out for potential suitors and trying to find a new club for him.
He is being offered to several clubs in Italy and Spain, though, there aren’t any advanced negotiations. Alejandro Camaño, his agent, and Tiago Pinto are pushing interested parties to formulate a concrete offer and they’ll continue to do so until the last possible moment.
