Head of the Italian Referee Association (AIA) Gianluca Rocchi spoke about the recent tension between match officials and Serie A clubs.

In a recent appearance at the Memorial Vincenzo Orlandini, Rocchi said, “Our referees must have strength. In recent days I’ve gotten angry because I’ve seen my boys being mistreated: I know how hard they work, I know they put everything they have on the pitch.”

“They can be wrong, many times I have been wrong. We must have the right to make mistakes and to be respected at the same time.”

“The recent meeting with managers from different leagues and levels was very helpful. If we have intellectual honesty, then we can’t ask for me. To all the referees out there I say, let’s love and care for each other.”
