Roma goalkeeper Alisson spoke to Brazilian portal Folha. These are his words:
“I did not want to leave Roma, but if I did not have the confidence in being able to play, I would have asked to leave because this is the most important season of my career. I wouldn’t want to have done so, but I also need to think of myself and my goals. Now I know that everything depends on me and my performances, because no one in Brazil during a World Cup year has a guaranteed place.”
“Last season, I played very little due to the choices of our former manager, Spalletti. I am a calm guy and I don’t like talking. I didn’t feel comfortable going to him and saying things because he chose to have two high-level goalkeepers and he played me in the cup competitions. He used meritocracy because Szczesny had done well the previous year. Let’s say I learned to have some patience. People will get to know my work, which I always do to the best of my ability. I have to say, though, even last year while I playing little, I had good performances. Being a goalkeeper in Italy is different, in Brazil it’s about strength and explosion, at Roma, we do more work on technique and positioning. Joining these all these ideas is fantastic.”
