New Roma striker Artem Dovbyk gave his first interview with the club following his transfer switch from Girona.
Following extensive negotiations, the Giallorossi agreed to pay the Spanish side €37 million [including bonuses] for the 27 year-old, who signed a five-year contract the capital club.
“I am very happy to be here,” began Dovbyk during his first appearance on Roma TV.
“This negotiation has finally concluded and I can’t wait to experience the first days with the team. I’m very happy right now.”
He continued, “The Friedkin’s? I spoke to Dan and Ryan. I had never spoken to the club president before a transfer. This certainly convinced me to come here. I really want to thank the Friedkin family for their confidence.”
“Why did I choose Roma? Because it is one of the best Italian clubs, with an important project in which I believe a lot. I hope we can do something interesting next season.”
“Roma is a very important and passionate club compared to Girona. I know there is a lot of pressure on me, but football without pressure is not football.”
Adding, “I feel the responsibility, but it’s an honor to play here in Italy, so I will try to show my best football, I want to be able to do it in Italy. I hope to score many goals here.”
“I spoke with Daniele De Rossi. He explained to me about his tactical ideas, then he told me a little about the club. After this conversation, I felt a positive emotion and that’s also why I made this choice.”
Finally, Dovbyk expressed his eagerness to play in his new home stadium, the Stadio Olimpico.
“The Olimpico? It is a wonderful stadium, I have seen many matches played at the Olimpico. There are always 70 thousand fans, it’s extraordinary to play in front of so many people. I think a stadium like this gives you that extra energy.”
