Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini admitted his side have gained a big confidence boost following their 1-0 victory over Roma this evening in the Italian capital.
A first half goal from young defender Giorgio Scalvini proved to be enough for La Dea to earn a critical away victory as they soared to the top of the Serie A table with 17 points.
“The lads showed great application of our football tonight,” Gasperini told DAZN.
“It was a tough game, Roma are strong but we held them well. Aside from the final part of the first half, we didn’t really take many risks and we even had chances to exploit them further than we did.”
“Nonetheless, these three points give us huge confidence. Matches like this are always tough but they’re a pleasure to win, they’re unlike any other result.”
Finally, “You have to raise your technical level in a game like this. We have many ways of playing and we always try to pick the correct one that gives us a chance to win.”
“We’ve gotten off to a good start so far this season. We’re not going to win the entire race (the league) but staying in it as long as possible would be nice.”
