Atalanta’s Matteo Pessina disappointed with refereeing display

Andy Mattioli

Atalanta midfielder Matteo Pessina sounded frustrated with last night’s result and thus voiced his frustration to DAZN following the final whistle to Roma 1-0 Atalanta.

“It’s a shame, we’re all disappointed. Roma defended for most of the game and they celebrated at the end of it because we put them in a tight spot. We could have done more.”

“I think we lack a bit of focus, it’s been two years that we’ve playing every three days and we can feel it getting to us on a physical level. It’s not an excuse, the same way certain absences in our team are not excuses, but we just try to adapt as best as possible. Individually we have to play better.”

“I still can’t wrap my head around certain decisions by the referee. For example, five or six times we got a whistle against us for a shoulder-to-shoulder foul, Malinovskyi got a yellow card for no reason. De Roon got sent off, that’s another head-scratcher.”

“I think Abraham made a dirty tackle which should have been checked with VAR and he should have gotten more than a yellow card.”
