Due to Pau Lopez’s struggles over the past two seasons, Roma want to acquire an important reinforcement at goalkeeper this summer.
The Giallorossi considered several options but are now close to agreeing to a deal for Wolves’ Rui Patricio.
The 33 year-old is the first choice option of incoming manager José Mourinho and he’s expected to join the capital club soon.
As for Lopez, who’s currently recovering from surgery following the dislocated shoulder injury he suffered against Manchester United, he won’t be available for another 6-8 weeks.
Even though he’ll require additional time before being fit, the Giallorossi will try to find a buyer for the Spaniard this summer.
According to Marca, one of the clubs interested in acquiring Lopez is Atletico Madrid. The reigning Spanish champions are keen to purchase an upgrade at the second choice goalkeeper role, currently occupied by Ivo Grbić.
Simeone’s side, though, would prefer to bring Pau Lopez to the club on loan — not on a permanent deal.
