Benatia: “Ziyech would’ve ran to join Roma, Pallotta deemed him too expensive”.

Former Roma defender Medhi Benatia was interviewed by SportWeek today and discussed the background on the Giallorossi’s collapsed transfer for Hakim Ziyech, who recently joined Chelsea.

Roma were said to have a deal in place with Ajax for the player, however, sporting director Ramon Monchi never finalised the operation.

”I tried to bring Ziyech to Roma and he would have ran to join. I spoke to Dzeko and Totti and told them to do what they had to do to get him,” said Benatia.

”Totti did everything he could as a director to conclude the negotiation, but Pallotta decided that it would be an ‘excessive expense’ and nothing came of it”.
