Roma boss Paulo Fonseca discussed the Giallorossi’s pathetic display in their 3-2 loss against Bologna this evening during his post-match interview with Roma TV. Here’s what he had to say:
What’s happened to Roma?
The team has suffered after the defeat against Sassuolo and didn’t stay calm tonight. It’s a matter of trust, it’s mental. It is difficult to understand why we reacted this way after the last game. We had a weak attitude, which led to mistakes.
Can the match against a competitor for the Champions League be motivational?
Yes, we have a very difficult match upcoming against Atalanta but now I’m more worried about the team recovering mentally. These mental issues are leading to individual errors.
The mentality is limiting this team.
Before the game, I talked to the players. The most important thing today was our mentality, playing without fear and playing with confidence. We didn’t show any of this tonight and it’s a problem. It’s difficult for me to explain why we are going through this moment. I have to work on the players’ mental state because this team can do much much better than what has been seen lately.
