Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori spoke about his recent return to Serie A and the difficult decision to leave Roma in 2022.
The former Roma Primavera player reflected on the painful departure from Trigoria in favor of a move to Basel and then Bologna where he has impressed everyone while playing as a centreback in Thiago Motta’s team.
“It was difficult to leave Roma because I joined Trigoria when I was just 9 years old,” Calafiori told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “But it was the best choice, because I wanted and had to play more.”
“I was no longer in Roma’s plans and I first went abroad to Basel and now I’m playing well at Bologna. Going abroad helped a lot. Without that experience I wouldn’t be the player and man I am now, I recommend it to everyone. If you are in difficulty in your country, you may have more possibilities abroad.”
