Borussia Mönchengladbach announced earlier today that midfielder Denis Zakaria will leave the club in the summer.
The Swiss international been linked with several clubs, including Roma, in recent months with his contract set to expire on 30 June 2022.
The German side hoped to convince the 25 year-old to extend his stay by signing a new contract, however, he rebuffed their proposals.
Outlining the situation, sporting director Max Eberl also revealed defender Matthias Ginter would be joining Zakaria in exiting Gladbach once the pair’s contracts expire in June.
“I made it clear to the lads I wanted everything to be resolved before the end of the season. I want everyone focus on the club and turning this situation around in the second half,” Eberl explained.
“Now we know who we can plan with for next season and who won’t be here. We have clarity going into the second half of this season. This was important for us.”
