The agent of former Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon admitted that the player had been very close to joining Roma over a decade ago.
In an interview with TvPlay, Silvano Martina – Buffon’s agent – had to say this about the goalkeeper’s failed transfer to the Italian capital.
“Buffon was very close to coming to Roma in 2013, he was out of contract among other things. But in the end he was a legend at Juventus and was fine where he was. Many teams would have wanted him even at 40 years old.”
“Roma and Svilar? I saw him play when he was very young and I liked him. I don’t know him well enough to tell you his strengths and weaknesses in detail, but he seems to me to be demonstrating personality and quality.”
“Penalties are lucky episodes, but I think he plays the role of goalkeeper well and that’s the important thing. Surely a club that has ambitions must have a strong goalkeeper and the next matches will tell more about his potential to decide. From how he is behaving, I think he is in good shape to have a starting place in Roma’s future.”
