Legendary Roma fullback Cafu is on the verge of pursuing legal action against his former club.

As reported in today’s edition of Il Messaggero, Cafu is set to sue Roma and Qatar Airways over a violation of his image rights for club testimonial the player agreed to do in 2019.

Four years ago, Cafu is said to have agreed to feature as the club’s legendary testimonial in in a video as part of a partnership with ex-sponsor Qatar Airways.

The matter of image rights was never settled with the capital club and – following the Friedkin’s takeover of the club in 2020 – was not brought up to the attention of the new ownership.

According to the newspaper, Cafu waited over three years before deciding on suing Roma and Qatar Airways for a grand total of €11.8 million.
