Cagliari manager Davide Nicola spoke after ahead of Sunday’s league opener with Roma.
The Italian technician addressed Cagliari’s area for improvement in the aftermath of their 3-1 win over Carrarese in Coppa Italia.
“We conceded a goal that was practically gifted to them by us,” Nicola told the media.
“Against Roma we must not make such mistakes, we must read the action better,” he added.
“It’s my fault because I asked the team to force the action and at that moment it wasn’t necessary. Personally I won’t dwell on the errors, because in every goal you concede there are at least 5 or 6 errors.”
“I liked the performance, how the lads’ level of application, the mentality. I really liked the welcome from the fans. I want to show our people our desire to play and attack.”
“However, we are still a certain distance away from a good physical condition. Today it wasn’t a given to win and perform well. I think there is still a lot to work on, we are still rather weak when it comes to duels, but I certainly didn’t expect all this today.”
