Cagliari director Nereo Bonato urges team to bounce back after 4-1 loss to Roma

Cagliari sporting director Nereo Bonato weighed in on his team’s situation following their 4-1 home defeat against Roma.

The Sardinians suffered their sixth loss through eight rounds, sitting bottom of the Serie A table with just two points. However, Bonato confessed the expectations were low when they initially saw their opening fixtures to begin the season.

“When I first looked at our league calendar, I expected zero points and not two,” stated Bonato during a post-match press conference.

“We battled against Torino, Bologna, and Udinese but we’re not giving up. Serie A is difficult, but as long as you don’t give up in the tough moments eventually you’ll get to the bottom of the situation. Our youngsters need to mature, they perform well but they’re also prone to mistakes.”

He added, “Ranieri? There’s a huge unity of purpose, we analysed the path we had to take this season and we know time will be our ally. Only eight rounds have been played and there’s still 30 left, so we’re eager to redeem ourselves.”
