Cagliari have been hit by a wave of new COVID cases ahead of their league clash tomorrow against Roma.

The Sardinian side cancelled manager Walter Mazzarri’s pre-match press conference and announced that Simone Aresti, Raoul Bellanova and Matteo Lovato tested positive. In addition, five of the club’s Primavera also tested positive for COVID, though, they did not come into contact with any first team players.

Despite the new cases, tomorrow’s match will still be played after the new COVID measures implemented by Lega Serie A take effect this weekend.

Under the new protocols, a match can be postponed only if at least 35 percent of the playing squad has tested positive for COVID. Though, this figure only includes senior players—not youth players.

The Lega announced the new protocols earlier this week after their relations with Italy’s various regional health authorities began to sour.
