Cagliari’s Walter Mazzarri still bitter over January loss to Roma

Cagliari suffered their first loss yesterday evening since their mid-January 1-0 defeat against Roma.

The Sardinians were defeated 3-0 at home against Lazio, ending their five-match unbeaten run in the league. Following the match, Cagliari boss Walter Mazzarri detailed what’s been behind their recent string of positive results.

“For the second half of the season, we decided to throw everything away that happened in the first half,” he told DAZN.

“We started well then undeservedly lost to Roma. Against Lazio, though, we paid dearly for turning the ball over, they punish us.”

“Lazio stayed very compact but they started playing once they got the penalty. Then when I tried to add another attacker to our formation and they hit us for another goal.”
