Carles Pérez tipped to start this evening over Zaniolo

Roma attacker Carles Perez

Roma winger Carles Pérez is in line to make his second league start of the campaign versus Udinese this evening at 20.45 local time.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Spaniard is tipped to start ahead of regular first-choice attacker Nicolo Zaniolo, who’s expected to be rested ahead of Sunday’s Derby showdown.

Just months after his time in Rome appeared to be over, Pérez (23) has transformed into one of the most heavily relied upon players by manager José Mourinho, who is a big fan of the Catalan.

It’s a huge turn of events for Pérez after he fell out of favor with ex-Roma boss Paulo Fonseca last season. He was limited to only six league starts throughout the entire campaign and was widely expected to leave in the summer.

But after earning Mourinho’s trust in preseason, the attacker has featured in every single match so far this season and is enjoying a rebirth under the Portuguese tactician.

Mourinho admires the attitude that Pérez displays when he’s on the pitch and considers him among the most prepared players in the team.
