Chiellini: “Totti could’ve won the Ballon d’Or”.

In his recently released biography “Io, Giorgio”, Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini lauded former Roma attacker and captain Francesco Totti, admitting that the Giallorossi talisman deserved to win the Ballon d’Or.

“Francesco was immense, really, and it was a shame not to see him perform on other stages,” said the defender in an excerpt on Roma’s number 10.

“Before the aliens (Messi and Ronaldo) started overtaking the award, Totti really could’ve won it. They gave it to players like Owen or Shevchenko, who are great, but certainly not more than Totti. He had eyes in the back of his head. He had immense class and physicality, albeit he was a bit slower with his pace. I saw him play fantastic football. He was a genius”.
