Roma centreback Chris Smalling is dealing with a severe case of chronic tendinitis.

In recent days, Smalling flew to London where surgeon Andy Williams confirmed Roma’s diagnosis and rehabilitation plan.

However, the veteran defender is hesitant to get back to training as he continues to sense severe pain in his knee, reports Corriere della Sera.

It is possible – claims the newspaper – that Smalling will only be able to return to Jose Mourinho’s disposal in December.

Roma are concerned with the situation and – according to recent reports – are monitoring potential defensive reinforcements ahead of the January window.
