Chris Smalling has grown to become Mourinho’s most reliable and utilized player of the Special One’s tenure at Roma. The Englishman has recorded an astounding 1816 minutes in this year’s campaign so far – more than Roma’s shot-stopper, Rui Patricio.
The English defender is projected to soon complete 50% of all season appearances which will determine his future at the club. As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Roma do not hold an option to renew Smalling’s contract. Its current expiry date is set for June 2023.
However, the veteran centreback is expected to make a decision after reaching the 50% appearances milestone and is likely to extend his stay in the capital club.
