After his headed effort gifted Roma the three points in their second league outing of the season, defender Chris Smalling dedicated the win to his injured teammate Gini Wijnaldum.

“The three points are for him. We are all very sad,” he told DAZN in the post-match interview.

“We talked to him before the game, we hope he can come back as soon as possible because we need him. He integrated into the group very well right from the first day he joined.”

“We can play better and finish off our chances to win the game earlier,” he continued.

“Having already played with Mourinho helps a lot in what I do, and this team helps me to improve. We couldn’t have started the season any better.”

“We improve day by day. We had many chances tonight, we could have scored three or four goals.”
