Roma defender Chris Smalling remains out with a chronic knee injury.
The Englishman has been plagued with a chronic case of tendinitis and other issues affecting the cartilage in his knee.
According to Il Messaggero, Smalling has began a lengthy recovery process initiated by Roma’s medical staff and confirmed by English surgeon Andy Williams whom he visited a couple of weeks ago.
The newspaper claims the veteran centreback is eyeing a return to training within the next 15-20 days with the objective returning to Mourinho’s complete disposal for the games against Sassuolo and Bologna at the start of December.
Despite his scheduled return, Roma are said to be intent on finding a suitable replacement in January.
