Chris Smalling in talks to extend contract with Roma

English defender Chris Smalling continues to impress in a season where he reaffirmed his veteran status and provided key leadership to José Mourinho’s squad.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, General Manager Tiago Pinto spoke with the player’s agent a few weeks ago to discuss Smalling’s contract which is set to expire next year.

The Italian newspaper reports that one of the options Roma are currently considering is to offer Smalling an extension until 2025 with a considerably lower salary.

The player would be earning less than €3 million on a two-year contract.
