Roma are evaluating the situation surrounding Chris Smalling’s long-term chronic injury.
The Englishman has been sidelined for over three months with a persistent knee injury which has made it impossible for him to return to group training.
Roma are yet to establish a clear timeline of recovery for the veteran centreback.
According to calciomercato.com, the capital club had even suggested for Smalling to undergo surgery and speed up the process of recovery by directly resolving the issue with his knee.
The news portal claims, however, that Smalling is not convinced of it and has rejected this option.
His return could now be delayed to February with Roma being forced to look for a replacement in the January window.
