Roma are having trouble securing an exit for English defender Chris Smalling.

The veteran centreback is one of the main players to have been linked with a departure from the capital club this summer.

Smalling is no longer included in Roma’s long-term plans.

This decision was communicated to the player’s entourage who have been tasked with finding him a new club to join.

So far, Smalling seems to have only drawn interest in Saudi Arabia due to his elevated wages and inconsistent fitness levels and the resulting extensive injury history.

According to Corriere della Sera, Smalling has received offers from the Saudi Pro League but showed reluctance when regarding them.

Until the player does not accept one of these proposals, Roma will be unable to add a replacement, writes the newspaper.
